“It takes a village”

History

The Lariat was established as a print paper in 2015 under the direction of adviser Sydney Brookshire. The publication was printed 10 times before moving to the online platform, chslariat.com.

The Lariat has won 5 Rookie ILPC awards including 1st and 3rd in page design. Alberto Huichapa (’18) won 1st and 2nd in the sports story category and 2nd in the sports photo category.

University Interscholastic League

In the 2017-18 school year, the team won 50 medals.

In the 2018-2019 school year, the team became district champions. Reanna Arndt was a 3rd place regional qualifier in Editorial Writing. Trinity Moore was an alternate. In Feature, Andrea Morales was district champion, and Dalton Snider and Rachel Guidry qualified for regionals with 2nd and 3rd place medals. In headline, Reanna Arndt was regional alternate. In news, Andrea Morales was district champion, Celeste Gibson placed second and qualified for regionals. Cheyenne Byrnes was a regional alternate.

At the regional competition, Celeste Gibson placed 3rd in news and Trinity Moore placed 5th in Editorial.
