The Art Club traveled to Holiday Nursing and Rehabilitation on Friday December 14 to decorate the doors of elderly residents.

“We had been wanting to get out in the community since last year and this year we finally got the

chance,” Art Club Sponsor Joella Summerlot said.

Summerlot contacted the nursing home activities director to set up the event.

“I contacted them and they suggested to do wall or door decorations,” Summerlot said. “We decided as a group to do wrapping paper on the doors.”

Art Club found money for the wrapping paper in their club account. The money used to purchase the wrapping paper came from earlier club projects such as face painting at many school wide events.

“Many of the residents were very grateful and happy,” Art Club President Magda Dominquez said. “We were taking awhile to decorate some doors and as others walked past they asked if we could come decorate their door as well.”

Residents expressed their joy and gratefulness for the Art Clubs actions.

“It put a smile on my face and put me in the Christmas mood,” a resident of the Holiday Nursing Center Nelda Salas said. “Glad y’all did it.”
